New media centre at the Stationers Crown Woods Academy

A group of businesses from within the office supplies industry has collaborated to support a new media centre for students at the five-star Stationers Crown Woods Academy (SCWA) in Eltham, East London.

The state of the art media centre, which opened last month, has been sponsored by The Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers. Abbotts Office Solutions, Office Power and Verco Office Furniture have also supported with the provision of discounted furniture and fittings.

Sue Pandit is a Stationers Company Court Assistant and Liveryman, Deputy Chair of Governors at SCWA and Chair of the Digital Media Centre planning group. She commented: “It’s taken two years to get here and we are delighted that the Stationers Digital Media Centre is now open and ready for teaching. Pupils from across SCWA can’t wait to experience the state of the art equipment and high-end professional environment.

“The centre has been designed to support the delivery of the new digital media vision at SCWA. Most of the funding for the design, the building construction work, the IT hardware and software and the furniture and fittings came from donations to the Stationers Foundation, the charitable arm of the Stationers Company. We are also thankful for the great support we received from several stationers who work in the office products sector –  Simon Drakeford at Office Power, Tim Crabtree at Abbotts Office Solutions (who has worked tirelessly to help us specify our needs) and Chris Riley of Verco – to deliver a wonderful range of state of the art furniture and fittings.”

Emma Smith, Deputy Head, SCWA: “Walking into the new Digital Media Centre at SCWA is like entering the newsroom or design studio of a top London newspaper or magazine company.  The industry standard equipment and contemporary furniture gives the centre a very professional feel, providing our students with the opportunity to learn in a realistic work related environment.”

Tim Crabtree, managing director, Abbotts Office Solutions: “As one of the leading office supplies, desking, seating & storage dealers, Abbotts Office Solutions have been honoured to be involved in creating the Stationers Crown Woods Academy’s Digital Media Centre.  With our long experience of furnishing workspaces [99 years & counting] & the ability to draw on a wide range of desking & seating we have been able to accurately match the goals set both by the Stationer’s Livery Company & SCWA. The finished workspace will inspire students & prepare them for the working environment when they leave school or university.”

Stationers Company Court Assistant and Liveryman Mike James finished: “This collaboration is a great example of how our Livery Company with its 600-year history is still important to its trades and how – by working together – we can all support both the trades and the charitable aims of The Company.”
