Freedom

How Do You Achieve Freedom

Freedom Isn’t Easy, But It’s Not Complicated

How many times do you hear people saying “There’s no way I could do that” or “I wish I was able do such and such”? Have you heard those words in your own mind or coming from your own mouth? Well, they say the secret of happiness is freedom, and the secret of freedom is courage. Consequently, in the words of the Roman philosopher Seneca,

“He who is brave is free.”

Freedom comes when we are able to act without fear. It’s about fulfilling dreams. It’s all about realizing that there are infinite options in life, limited only by our imagination and ability to take immediate action.

Developing the skills and habits for being free

Be brave, every day

Being bold in thought, word, and action helps wear away our resistance to change, our dread of standing out. It’s crucial for our freedom that we overcome our unwillingness and caution.
When asked for your opinion, make audacious suggestions. When presented with choices, go in the direction that pushes you out of your comfort zone. When you find yourself in limbo, overcome inertia. Talk to new people. Make a break in your routine. Move more, sit less. Reach and stretch… be conspicuous!

You’ll easily find your own ways to be fearless, but here are a few ideas to kick start the operation. On the way take note of how you feel during the process: the lead-up, doing the exercise, and afterward.

Talk to Strangers

Make eye contact with the next interesting looking stranger you meet, offer a genuine compliment on the way they look, or something they appear to take some pride in. Keep it quick and casual, but sincere – don’t say it if you don’t mean it.

Most people are so shocked that a stranger is talking to them; they won’t be able to manage more than a “Thanks”, so just nod and say “That’s OK”. This quick and casual reply as you walk away will keep them from feeling awkward. The genders involved here don’t matter, there’s nothing wrong with giving a compliment to someone of the same gender.

Take Cold Showers

This is an interesting one. Turn on the water in your shower as cold as it will go, set a timer for one minute, or two or three if you’re feeling heroic, quickly step in, getting your entire body wet and stay there until the timer goes off.

A little off the wall?.. For sure, Maybe a bit chilly?.. Excruciatingly, The worst thing that will happen today?.. Not by a long shot! This is a daily routine for a lot of people; it helps them realize that things nearly always seem worse before they happen, as well as assisting to overcome fears of discomfort.

Say, Yes, Yes, Yes

Say yes to everything you possibly can. Find ways to make it imaginable even when you think it’s not. Forget about what’s convenient, comfortable, or within your perceived level of ability. Saying “yes” will lead you to new experiences that will expand your skills, boost your confidence, and lift your spirits, as well as expose you to new and interesting people.

Get Sweaty

Take time each day to do one thing that makes your pulse race, it can be energetic exercise, a nerve-racking situation like public speaking, or the other thing that elevates you heart rate and brings on a glow. They all have their benefits, and will maintain your physical, emotional, and mental physique.

Take it from here

Freedom can only be gained by doing the difficult work, by taking action even when you don’t feel like it. If none of the above suggestions appeal to you, make up your own and start on them today. Don’t find excuses; find possibilities, above all, be dauntless, intrepid, and adventurous, only then will freedom come knocking at your door.
